USC 23, CAL 17: In what was perhaps the biggest game in the history of the school, CAL dominated everything but the stat that matters the most. Costly mistakes by the special teams, and two late drives stopped inside the Red Zone, were the difference. The closeness of the game was enough to keep CAL's BCS hopes alive, but the Bears now have an unexpected battle shaping up next week at home against a suddenly resurgent UCLA side.

He may have lost the first debate, but President Bush hopes to regain some of his momentum following his receipt this morning of the endorsement of former Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler. No word yet on whether Bush has picked up the all-important Earle Bruce endorsement.
